AADRL Computational Design Preview Workshop: Cellular Automata Architecture with Vibe Coding (English)

About

Six days inside an AADRL-style studio, at your own pace. This course is the complete recording of a six-day workshop led by Hanjun Kim, a tutor at the AA School's Design Research Laboratory (AADRL) in London, held in Seoul at Hongik University. You don't need to know how to code. Using Unity and AI-assisted vibe coding with Codex, you'll build cellular automata from scratch and use their rules to generate architectural form. This is the English-dubbed edition. The original Korean audio has been translated and voiced in English by an AI narrator. ■ What you'll get · A starting point for a computational design project you can put in your portfolio · A way of building algorithms with AI instead of memorising code line by line · The full AADRL-style critique process, as team projects move from concept to mid review to final presentation · Core ideas of generative design: cellular automata, Game of Life, 2.5D stacking and more ■ Curriculum · 6 days / 27 lessons / about 16.5 hours DAY 1 · Cellular automata theory and Unity basics (2h 51m) DAY 2 · Building cellular automata in C#: grids, image seeds, Game of Life, 2.5D stacking (3h 12m) DAY 3 · Visualisation, vibe coding with Codex, and team concepts (2h 59m) DAY 4 · Past workshop case studies and mid presentations (2h 28m) DAY 5 · Team mid-review critiques (2h 55m) DAY 6 · Final presentations and workshop wrap-up (2h 11m) See the lesson list below for details of each part. ■ Who this is for · Applicants to the AA, Bartlett and other schools abroad who need a computational project in their portfolio · Grasshopper users ready to move on to code- and algorithm-based design · Architects and designers with no coding experience who want to try AI vibe coding · Anyone who missed the live workshop ■ Tutor · Hanjun Kim Architectural Designer & Educator · Visiting tutor, Architectural Association (AADRL) · Associate lecturer, Oxford Brookes University ■ What you need · A laptop (Windows / Mac) · Unity 6.3 (free) · A ChatGPT account (for the Codex vibe coding exercises) · Rhino + Grasshopper (optional) ■ Course info · Recorded at a six-day workshop at Hongik University, Seoul, in August 2026. · Waiting and break times have been edited out, and the video plays at 1.1x speed. · Access lasts 12 weeks from the day you join, and you can rewatch lessons in any order. · Student and critic voices in the presentation days are voiced by the same narrator.
